Dental CrownsDo you have a broken, misshapen, or deeply discolored tooth? If you answered "yes," you may be interested in dental crowns! Crowns are caps, often made of porcelain, that dentists put on teeth in order to correct a number of dental issues as well as improve a smile's appearance. Dr. John Chu and Dr. Mary L. Lin in South Pasadena, CA, offer a full range of dental services, including crown placement. Read on to find out how dental crowns can help your smile!

1. Fix Dental Issues

Crowns are used to repair badly decayed, worn-down, broken, or damaged teeth. Crowns are also used to protect root-canal-treated teeth and as parts of a dental bridge. If you need crowns, see your dentist as soon as possible. Putting off treatment could jeopardize the health of your teeth and cause them to be damaged beyond repair.

2. Beautify Your Smile

Dental crowns can also improve your smile by enhancing the appearance, alignment, shape, and color of your teeth. Crowns are made from several types of materials, including porcelain, ceramics, composite resin, or a combination of these materials, making them an attractive correction to any teeth that may be unsightly.

3. The Luster of Real Teeth

Porcelain dental crowns can be matched to the color of your existing teeth. Your dentist can choose from many shades and give you a crown that is best matched to you. Nothing gives the same depth, translucency, and luster like porcelain dental crowns.

4. Durability & Strength

A dental crown acts as a strong covering for a tooth that has been damaged or weakened. Dental crowns can strengthen your damaged teeth and protect your weak teeth from fracturing. Crowns are known for their exceptional durability. Generally, crowns last between 10 and 15 years, and some crowns can even last a lifetime.

5. Improve Oral Function

If you have damaged teeth, you know they can keep you from enjoying the foods you love. It's difficult to eat and chew properly when you have fractured teeth, and dental crowns will give you the ability to chew all of your favorite foods again. They will restore the structure of your teeth so that you can eat in comfort and with confidence once again.

Dental Implants to Replace Missing TeethSmile gaps look unattractive, and they compromise remaining teeth and how you chew and speak. If you are missing one, two, or even more teeth or think extractions are in your future, consider dental implants from Dr. John Chu and Dr. Mary Lin, your South Pasadena, CA, dentists. Truly, these modern tooth replacements are amazingly close to real teeth.

What are dental implants?

They are artificial teeth having three components: a root (the titanium implant device itself), an extension post and a custom-fabricated porcelain crown. Your South Pasadena dentist inserts the dental implant screw into the jaw bone, anchoring it permanently in place.

Because titanium and human bone are highly compatible, they bond together through something called osseointegration. While osseointegration takes time, it practically guarantees the implant's success and longevity.

The Institute for Dental Implant Awareness states that 95 to 98 percent of single-tooth implants will last 40 to 50 years. Conventional tooth replacements, such as bridges and partial dentures, typically fail within 15 years because they lack adequate support. Dr. Chu and Dr. Lin place single-tooth implants and multi-tooth bridges and dentures supported by implants.

Placing a dental implant

Take, for instance, the single implant procedure. It's done in its entirety at our dentists' office following a complete oral examination and X-rays to determine if the jaw is sufficiently dense to support the implant.

An access hole in the jaw allows for implant placement and after healing, bonding of the extension post and crown. Healing and osseointegration takes many weeks, and some patients wear provisional crowns in the meantime to complete their smiles.

On the return visit, our dentists check for proper osseointegration. If all is well, they bond the permanent crown onto the metal alloy extension post.

Caring for an implant or implant-supported denture

Daily oral hygiene is critical to implant success. Just as with your natural teeth, good brushing and flossing habits decrease plaque and tartar accumulation and avoid gum and bone infections (implants do not get cavities). You should see your dentist twice a year as usual for examinations and professional cleanings, and if you grind your teeth, ask Dr. Chu or Dr. Lin about a bite guard. A bite guard reduces the stresses on your implant and the rest of your smile, too.

Don't delay

Dental implants from Dr. Chu or Dr. Lin and their caring team really do fill gaps, beautifying your smile and avoiding the bone and gum deterioration which happens after tooth loss. To find out more, please call their South Pasadena, CA, office to arrange your consultation. Phone (626) 799-0852.

Why let your smile be anything less than perfect when there’s cosmetic dentistry?cosmetic dentistry

Most people end up just putting up with cosmetic imperfections in their smile because they don’t really know what their options are to change it. Our South Pasadena, CA, cosmetic dentists, Dr. John Chu and Dr. Mary Lin, are here to explain the different options that are out there so you know what we can do to help your smile.

Dental Stains

No one wants a yellow smile and yet it happens over time. Maybe you just can’t tear yourself away from that coffee or you quit smoking but are still faced with nasty discolorations. Don’t worry; our South Pasadena dentist has you covered.

If you have external stains (yellow or brown stains), this can easily be treated with professional teeth whitening. Choose from our in-office whitening system if you want significant whitening results quickly, or opt for our at-home whitening system if you prefer to do it from the comfort of your own home.

Tooth Loss

Nothing is more embarrassing than having gaps in your smile where your teeth used to be. If this has happened to you, it’s important to know that you have options. If you are willing to wait a few months to get a tooth replacement, then choose dental implants, which is the closest thing you can get to real teeth. They offer an amazing array of benefits including preserving jawbone health and preventing changes to your facial structure.

Of course, dental bridges and even dentures can be ideal options for patients who may not be ideal candidates for implants. These restorations have stood the test of time and continue to be a popular way to replace one or more missing permanent teeth.

Misshapen or Uneven Teeth

From cracks and chips to gaps in your smile, there are many imperfections that can befall you at any point in time. Luckily, dental veneers can be bonded to the front of your teeth to cover gaps, discolorations, malformed teeth, minor overlapping or crooked teeth, as well as cracks, chips and fractures. These porcelain shells are made to look just like the surface of your teeth and are custom-made to cover over each front area of an individual tooth.

Do any of the cosmetic services above sound like exactly what you’ve been looking for? We thought so! If you are interested in what we can offer you then call our South Pasadena, CA, cosmetic dental office today and book an appointment with us.

Isn't it about time you treated yourself to the smile you've always wanted? If you don't like the way your smile looks, you'll want to veneersconsider porcelain veneers. South Pasadena, CA, dentists, Dr. John Chu and Dr. Mary Lin, explain how veneers can enhance your smile.

A simple way to change your smile

Slipcovers are the ideal solution if your couch is stained or torn. After you carefully arrange the new cover, no one will ever know what problems lurk underneath. Porcelain veneers are just as effective at hiding the little flaws that affect tooth enamel. Because they're no thicker than a fingernail, veneers are very light and comfortable. Custom-made veneers are attached to the fronts of teeth with dental cement and easily conceal many dental imperfections.

No more gaps

No matter how small they are, gaps between your teeth can make you feel a little self-conscious. After your new veneers are applied at our South Pasadena office, you'll soon forget you even had any spaces in your smile.

An easy way to brighten dull teeth

Do you sipping on coffee throughout the day? The dark pigments in certain beverages, such as coffee, tea, wine and cola, can stain teeth. Teeth whitening treatments offer one way to lighten your smile, but whitening results only last a few years. Porcelain veneers provide a long-lasting, stain-resistant alternative to teeth whitening. A single veneer can also be used to improve the appearance of one tooth that has darkened due to taking tetracycline or as a result of dental procedure.

Damage disappears

Wear and tear on your teeth can cause cracks and chips. Your new veneers will transform your smile by concealing minor damage that can mar your smile.

Veneers lengthen teeth

A discrepancy in the length of your teeth can have a big impact on your smile. Often the problems occur if you grind your teeth at night. Grinding wears down tooth enamel, shortening teeth. In addition to lengthening your teeth with veneers, you'll also want to wear a nightguard while you sleep to prevent further enamel erosion or a cracked veneer.

Upgrade your smile with porcelain veneers. Find out if this cosmetic dentistry option will solve your dental problem by calling South Pasadena, CA, dentists, Dr. Chu and Dr. Lin, at (626) 799-0852 to schedule an appointment.
